I, like you, am a practicing attorney. I discovered how to run my law firm as a successful business. But, I had to learn the hard way. I started out as a solo practitioner with a secretary. My practice was unexpectedly paralysed when my secretary was out for 3 weeks with a family emergency. Reality hit. What about next time? What if it were ME? I also worried because I had no other attorneys to consult with and verify I was doing everything correct. As my practice continued to grow I struggled with keeping up with all the demand of clients, referral sources and family. My cash flow became inconsistent. I struggled to find any time to market, which in turn continued affecting my cash flow. Work for clients was taking longer, their frustrations mounted as did mine. It was a vicious cycle. Something had to change. I am even able to take vacations without sacrificing cash flow. Today my practice is a business that operates without me (although I’m still in it because I enjoy it).
